Heads-up: FrameMaker and RoboHelp Online Tests on the TWIN Portal
TWIN is continuing its development and growth - all for the benefit of the technical writing fraternity in India. While the industry is experiencing slow or minimal growth, it's important that we, as technical writers, constantly look for opportunities and find newer avenues to enhance our skills, competence, and competitiveness.
Albeit we are proficient in what we do (technical writing, publishing, editing, and other allied areas), we need to test our own skills and abilities. This assessment helps us identify some areas for which we can develop a set of self-development goals. Now TWIN will help you do that.
TWIN is launching *free* online tests in Adobe FrameMaker and Adobe RoboHelp on the TWIN Portal. These tests are not equivalent to a formal certification. Nonetheless, you can use this feature of TWIN to test your own skills.
Now the most exciting part of the story:) Thanks to Adobe!
When the tests are launched (tentative - May 2009), you can take the FrameMaker and RoboHelp tests individually for free. Two top scorers (first and second) will receive exciting rewards from Adobe. The TWIN member with the highest marks in FrameMaker and RoboHelp (each) will receive a free copy of the fully licensed Adobe Technical Communication Suite software, which contains most of Adobe's flagship technical communication products. The runner-up in the Adobe FrameMaker category will receive a free copy of the latest Adobe FrameMaker software. Similarly, the runner-up in the Adobe RoboHelp category will receive a free copy of the latest Adobe RoboHelp software. In addition, all of them (top scorers) will receive recognition from TWIN.
Let me clarify that the Adobe prizes will be given annually (in other words, once a year), so the prizes will be given away during the launch of the tests in May (tentative). We will have a start date and an end date. After this, the tests will continue to exist on the TWIN portal this year (till December 2009), but the Adobe rewards won't apply.
On behalf of the TWIN community, I would like to thank Adobe for their tremendous support.
The tests are being developed. I will let you know as and when we make significant progress. I thought I should post a heads-up message, so you can start preparing for the tests.
If you have any questions, mail me off-list, as usual.
