About TWIN, the technical
writers' community

When it was first conceived about ten years ago, nobody had the faintest clue that Technical Writers of India (TWIN) would grow to its present stature so quickly. Several factors have had a role to play in this evolution, not the least of which is the nearly sudden explosion of awareness about Technical Communication in India. The TWIN website had to reflect this evolution as it was one of the pioneers of the profession and continues to remain the first stop for all aspiring Indian technical writers. This metamorphosis was natural: from being a static website to an interactive community portal.

TWIN is registered as a public trust with the government of India. The Permanent Account Number (PAN) of TWIN is AABTT6239M. If you are interested in donating to TWIN, please contact Gururaj, the TWIN owner, by sending an email message to gururaj.bs@gmail.com. The money will be used for running the initiatives and projects of TWIN.

Features of the TWIN Portal

In its present shape, the TWIN portal is an ongoing effort both to help the community and itself. Knowledge shared is knowledge gained. This portal believes in throwing its gates open to anyone interested to partake in its offerings. You have several gates to choose from:

Apart from the obvious benefits to members - getting noticed is the most obvious and important one - the portal provides an almost inexhaustible treasure of resources: from getting started in the profession to job ads to specialized areas of interest.

People Behind the TWIN Portal

The idea of revamping TWIN germinated several months ago. Ever since, work went on behind the scenes directed mainly by:

• Gururaj B.S. who owns the TWIN mailing list and the Web site
• Michael David who administers the server and resources that power TWIN and developed the site
• Suman Kumar who implemented an open source Content Management System (CMS) and did some wonderful things on site usability
• Sandeep Balakrishna who moderates discussions on the TWIN list

Other enthusiasts pitched in with suggestions, hints, and helped beta-test the portal. Because they're too many, we've not named the individuals; just the same, they have our sincere gratitude.
