Hi All,

I am technical writer with 3 years of experience. But currently I am not working as I had to take a break due to some personal problems. As I started looking for some jobs now, I have heard that I am eligible only for my last drawn salary and that I can't a get hike to my previous salary as I am not working now and that I took a break in my career. But during this break period, I have a done a certification course in few tools in the industry.

Friends, could you please let me know, what I have heard is right? I am not eligible for a hike in salary, if I get a new job? Hope somebody can share their thoughts on this.

Thanks in advance,
sreyas

Salary after a break in career

Hello Sreyas,

I am sorry to hear that, but I guess we all have to live with this. Companies know very well that you need a job, hence thay will offer lesser pay in the hope that you will take it. Also note that you have not been productive in your break period though you have enhanced your qualification. If you had taken a break to enhance your qualifications, you would have stood a better chance of getting a hike.

I suggest you to try a few more interviews and if not successful, accept a job with your previous offer. This way atleast you will not miss out on experience. Moreover, it is a question of just 1 year. After that, you can command more money on the basis of your experience and additional qualifications.

Regards,
vnvwriter.
